High order computational scheme for a dynamic continuum model for bi-directional flow

چکیده
In this paper, we present a high-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme, coupled with a high-order fast sweeping method, for solving a dynamic continuum model for bidirectional flow. We first review the dynamic continuum model for bi-directional flow. This model is composed of a coupled system of a conservation law and an Eikonal equation. Then we present the first-order Lax-Friedrichs difference scheme, the high order WENO scheme, and the fast sweeping method, and demonstrate how to apply them to the model under study. We present a comparison of the numerical results of the model from the first order and high-order methods, and conclude that the high-order methods are more efficient than the first order one, and they both converge to the same solution of the physical model. keywords: dynamic continuum model, bi-directional flow, conservation law, Eikonal equation, WENO method, fast sweeping method.

Numerical simulation of a continuum model for bi-directional pedestrian flow
An algorithm for an extended reactive dynamic user equilibriummodel of pedestrian counterflow as a continuum is developed. It is based on a cell-centered high-resolution finite volume scheme with a fast sweeping method for an Eikonal-type equation on an orthogonal grid. A high-order total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta method is adopted for the time integration of semi-discrete equations. Th...
متن کاملEffects of Multi-directionality on Pedestrian Flow Characteristics
In design and analysis, standard references assume the pedestrian flow as unidirectional. In reality however, pedestrian flow is usually bi-directional. The main question pursued in this paper is that whether the main characteristics of pedestrian flow the same under uni- and bi-directional conditions. In order to achieve this goal, effect of bi-directional stream is inv...
متن کاملA case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows
Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...

In this paper, the mechanical behavior of three-phase inhomogeneous materials is modeled using the meso-scale model with lattice beams for static and dynamic analyses. The Timoshenko beam theory is applied instead of the classical Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the mechanical properties of lattice beam connection are derived based on the continuum medium using the non-local continuum theory. متن کاملUnsteady Magneto Hydro Dynamic Flow of a Second Order Fluid over an Oscillating Sheet with a Second Order Slip Flow Model
Unsteady slip-flow of second grade non-Newtonian electrically conducting fluid over an oscillating sheet has been considered and solved numerically. A second-order slip velocity model is used to predict the flow characteristic past the wall. With the assumption of infinite length in x-direction, velocity of the fluid can be assumed as a function of y and t, hence, with proper variable change pa...
